Michael surprised me with the Nikon D300 for our anniversary last month. It's much more sophisticated than my other cameras and doesn't even have an automatic setting, so it's forcing me to learn more about photography. These are a few of the first photos I took with it. I'm still learning & need lots of practice, but I think there's something so different and special about Sophie Lu's little face in these (my favorite is the 1st one). She's such an angel- I just love her so much and pray that she'll be patient and understanding when the reality of having a newborn baby sister sets it. I probably shouldn't worry too much, though. My precious girl always has a way of exceeding my expectations. :)

Darling pictures....and I think Sophie is going to embrace her new little sister with much pride and protection. It will be an adjustment for all of you, but what a wonderful one! ;)
Don't worry about being away from them while you are in the hospital....they will be fine....they are in their home, where they are use to being....when I read that you want to do everything possible to avoid a c-section I thought....Oh Shana, don't worry.....I've had two....it will be okay and the children will be okay while you are gone. You just concentrate on bringing this lovely 3rd gift you have been given into the world! ;) You are in my thoughts and I can't wait to hear about the arrival of your second precious daughter! ;)
Hugs,
Steffie
Love the new look of your blog! And Happy birthday to you!
What a wonderful surprise - and you images a amazing - as always :D
Ladybug hugs,
;D
Those photos are great and I like how the back ground is blurry.
I also like your new blog heading.
Is it a blog kit? Can you tell me where you purchased it so I can look into them?
Thanks much.
xoxo Michele
I love the pictures!WOW...SOOOO BEAUTIFUL..:)I love the first one,but I love the last one ,too:))
How do you put another date on your post?(I know why,but I don't know how you do it:)
These are just breathtaking. Sophie just does have something so dear and endearing about her. While I am sure it was not without big challenges from a parenting standpoint, it seemed like Sophie adjusted to big sisterhood with Ollie fairly easily...and I have no doubt you have preapred her equally as well for the new baby. YOU seem to have a knack for handling things as they come...and I know you have the skills to see yourself and your sweet little family through the inevitable growing pains (and you know...no pun intended towards your current growing belly and THOSE pains!).
Best wishes,
Kate
That is an excellent camera. My husband has that camera along with the D200 and some vintage Nikon manual cameras, which he uses for his black and white. He is looking at the new D700. Those photos of Sophie are honestly stunning. My favorite is the last one.
I love the first picture of Sophie. She is just beautiful! The Nikon D300 takes gorgeous pictures! The clarity always looks awesome! I'm a Nikon lover but sadly only have the D60:( Now can you have your hubby call my hubby and tell him I would also like a D300 as well. LOL! Love the black and whites:)
I love them all. Sophie Lu is just a beauty. Happy birthday!!
Hannah
i agree- the 1st is the best-- it's her facial expression. ikeep checking daily to see if you're in labor!!! i loved the reasoning for not naming her Sasha!!! (I agree) but of the 3 names, i do like that the best:) enjoy these last days (weeks) of anticipation-- it is so special-- having a newborn is so wonderful-- you'll love it- and you'll be great:)

Hi Mom-to-soon-three,
I have a Nikon D300 and it has an automatic setting. Boy, am I glad it does because otherwise I'd be in trouble. I still don't know much about the right lenses, light, etc.
Clueless Carolina Girl,
You mean the P (for Program) mode or which one?
Hugs, Shana :)
Beautiful Shana! That is a fabulous gift---one I covet too. Happy Birthday Girl! I will call you this week...promise.

Well Miss Steffie wrote everything I was thinking of writing. I have had 4 C-sections and it was hard being away from my babies but they were just fine : )
I think Sophie is going to be a wonderful big sister. It will be an adjustment for both her and Ollie but they will pull through with flying colors. There is a lot of love to go around : )
The pictures are beautiful!!! Yes Sophie looks like an angel. I love B&W. You did a fantastic job!
Breathtaking!!!!!!

Beautiful, beautiful pictures. Sophie Lu is such a pretty, photogenic little girl. You take wonderful pictures. I hope you are feeling okay. I keep checking in to see what is happening with your little ones.
Heather
wow ....she is beautiful :)
Great shots!
Andrea
The P - Mode is as automatic as it gets on the D300. The D300 is a great pro-sumer camera.
Just beautiful as always. Hope you had a wonderful birthday and best wishes as you await your new daughters arrival. Hugs, ~Janice~
Shana, have you figured out the aperature? (sp?) I have the Nikon D60 and am trying to do my own settings, but it gets really confusing!
These are beautiful. You are truly gifted Shana.
LeighAnne
how about some Ollie pictures with his beautiful big sister...
What an angel¡¡¡¡
Belén.
What a lovely child...pretty in B&W and full color.
I just left a comment and wanted to add that Sophie Lu is a year older than my granddaughter and both have the same sweet mouth shape...it gives them an unusual smile, I think. My granddaughter was born in China, too.
Those pictures are absolutely breathtaking and your Sophie Lu is so so beautiful and such a model ;-) She will be the best big sister to both Ollie and the little kitten, you are sooo rich !
best wishes

Hey Shana,
I'm as dumb as dirt about my D-300, don't get me wrong. All I know is I turn it on and get awesome pictures. I have it on P and the little computer screeen says "Auto", so I figured that was the auto setting. The only other thing I know is that there are great portrait lenses. You do not need a flash for them. My friends on the net who are "real" photographers do not use flash on indoor pics unless they have thousands of dollars of floodlights. They shoot indoor close ups without flash. Sometimes they put the subject near a window where the sun is coming through. Go to amazon and type in "nikon portrait lenses" and you will see 3 choices. I bought the cheapest one that was only $114.00 and it's worth every penny. You don't wanna scare your new kitten with flashing lights in her face anyway.
Good luck!! Really love that camera. It takes AWESOME pictures.
I've heard consistently wonderful things about the D300, and I even recommended it to the parents of a little girl in our kindergarten class-- and I have never recommended a camera that isn't a Canon!
You tell Michael he knows how to give a good gift ;)
(and tell Sophie she is an exquisite subject! What a sweetheart!)
I always love to check in on your blog. your work is amazing here.
And everything will be okay!! Better than okay!
I can hardly wait for the B&W photos of Sophie Lu and sibblings.......ok maybe all 3 together, or at lease Sophie Lu and Kitten.
Blessings while we wait with you!
Gail
I like the 3rd -- I just bought a Canon Rebel XSi and have barely used it, I need to get busy!
Shana,
I am new to the blogging world, but I have to tell you your blog is one of my FAVs. Sophie is just beautiful. We are waiting for our daughter...our LID is 7/11/06. I truly can't believe this wait. We will one day share pictures of our daughter with you! I love what you did with Sophie's blog. Please tell a newbee to the blogging world what software I need to change up the wallpaper and details on my blog. thank you. kvksmith@sbcglobal.net
The D300 is a great camera. I think P is the mode for automatic :). Programmed Auto is the acronym. Absolutely great black and whites!!
I hope Sophie's eye is better? I know you said she had pink eye. My boys had it when they were little (passed it to each other) it can be painful. Poor little thing. Hope she is well and that no one else caught it.
You should read Julius, Baby of the World to Sophie if she has trouble at first. It's a funny, sweet story and might help. Congratulations to you guys!
Dear shana,
You amaze me so much. I just want to tell you that you have inspired me to adopt a baby from china now. And i cant believe you have 3 kids. You dont look any older than 20. i have been looking at all the pictures of sophie lu, and she is so beautiful. She has grown up so fast. I have seen all your videos on youtube, and my favorite one is shashoo. I have shown it to all my friends, and they think it is adorable. Oliver and Sasha are also cute. I think you are an awsome mother, and i hope you continue to keep up the good work. Rock on!
I just cant stop looking at sophies adorable face. She is just sooooo cute.
Your babys are so beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You should become a photographer, and sophie should become a model!!!!!!
