Happy Chinese New Year!

Sophie Lu wishes everyone a very Happy Chinese New Year! She sends kisses and lots of special hugs to all her little sisters (& brothers) still waiting in China; to those who birthed and cared for them; and especially to all of the very lucky mommies and daddies who will soon hold them in their arms.

Much Love,

Happy Anniversary & 7 Month Update!

My baby is growing up!

On January 27th, we will celebrate our 7 month anniversary, and Sophie Lu will be exactly 20 months old- I can't believe it! She is growing up way too fast, and she amazes me with something new every day! She likes to pretend she is a "Big Girl"- like in this photo, I think she is busy doing her homework! (Notice how she holds her pencil correctly!) She helps Mommy with everything now- She wants to push the grocery cart & the stroller; she wants to hand the cashier the credit card (and all the groceries one by one); she wants to add the bubble bath to the tub; she wants to mix and stir and help Mommy cook; she wants to brush her own teeth and hair (mine & Pookie's too!); and of course, she loves to type on the computer and make lots of phone calls! She also "puts on her make-up" while I do mine. She uses the cap and pretends to apply lipgloss, eyeliner, powder, etc... It is the cutest thing! And, of course, she always ends her make-up session with looking in the mirror and exclaiming, "Preeee!"

Her vocabulary expands everyday! Here is our running list of the words she understands and uses:
a
Names: Mommy, Mama (more like MuMA!), Daddy (sometimes Dada or DaDoo!), Grandma, GoGo (big brother), Dora, Boots, Miffy, BaBa(her bottle), HoHo (her friend Holden), and GaGa (what she is currently calling Pookie!)
a
Words she uses often: light, moon, teeth, eye, nose, mouth, hair, ear, kitty, apple (bopple), balloon (boon boon), puppy, star, cheese, more, book, hi, hello (lo), bye, pants, clock, butterfly (bye), bird, fish (shish) water (wawa), please (pleeeeeeeeee), walk, chair, show, oh, no, rain, cloud, feet, shoes, bug, bow, home, house, banana (nana), pretty (preee), ice, bath, wow, baby, ball, truck, mouse, trash wet, out, keys, diaper (di di), two, pat, out, swing, tree, jump, read, yogurt (gurt), snacky, and bubble
s

Words she rarely uses, but pronounces perfectly: volcano, troll, and tiger

d

Words she uses all the time but still sound like gaga-googoo: giraffe, ice cream (boy does she try hard to say ice cream!) and I love you (which she whispers to me in the sweetest voice after I tell her I love her (which is constantly!))

d

Expressions & Sounds: Uh Oh!, Woo hoo!, Oh, no!, Oh yeah!, Weeeee! Oh, Wow!!, Yum, Mmmmm, Choo Choo, Meow, Moo, Shhhh, Blast off, and Mwah (when she kisses!)
d

Words in Spanish: habre, mapa

g

Sophie's very first sentence was... "Hi, Daddy!"

Walking Progress: As you recall, Sophie took her first steps around the Christmas Tree a couple of weeks before Christmas... Well, in the weeks to follow, she would only walk around the tree! Honestly, we could not get her to take a step in any other room! But as soon as she stood next to the tree, she would take off! So, just when we thought we'd have to keep our Christmas Tree up all year long, she surprised me and walked right across the kitchen floor (& then gave me a huge hug)! Now, she is walking all the time, and we are so proud of her. And her walk is super cute... she walks with her arms out for balance and kind of waddles like a ducky!

More about Sophie:

Favorite foods: anything Italian, anything frozen, and anything Daddy is eating!

Favorite songs: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, A Tisket a Tasket, Itsy Bitsy Spider, and anything by Dora or the moose on Noggin...

Favorite activities: reading, drawing, dancing, taking a bath, gardening with Daddy, playing with other kids, getting tickled, going through Mommy's bag, snuggling with Mommy, giving kisses, and singing (and ohhh is her singing bad (just like mine!) So off key- but soooo cute... Lalalalalala!)

Current Obsessions: the moon, butterflies, and ice cream cones!

Sophie now has 6 teeth on top and 4 on the bottom. Two more on the bottom are quickly emerging... which will bring her to a total of 12 teeth very soon! She is 32 inches tall and weighs 26 pounds (and counting)! Her hair is getting so long, but I have yet to decide on the bangs issue (I think I'll wait until I'm sure)!

Our darling Sophie Lu may be growing up, but she is still so sweet, so loving, so funny, so smart, so cuddly, and so wonderful in every way! She is truly a miracle, and I thank God so very much for blessing us with her. Being Sophie Lu's Mommy is my dream come true~ Happy 7 months together, my beautiful baby girl!

Mommy's Pigtails & Bangs for Sophie?

My friend Lynn reminded me that I also wore pigtails when I was a little girl- so I pulled out this photo and also remembered that I had bangs. I had always planned on Sophie not having bangs, but now this has me thinking... (especially since she is due for her first haircut soon!) Bangs or no bangs? That is the question!

Fun with Amy!

Sophie has so much fun with her big sister, Amy! (And Amy loves teaching Sophie how to be extra naughty!) Sophie loves you, Amy! Come visit again soon! xoxoxo

Sophie's First Rose Parade!

Daddy and Sophie watched the Rose Parade from a rainy roof-top party! Luckily, there was a tented, heated, catered area for Mommy! (Of course, I had to emerge to take lots of photos!)

Sophie's favorite part of the parade were the marching bands! She always applauds and screams, "Yay!!!" after each performance!

Sophie steals a kiss from Daddy! That "Kissy Face" of hers is just priceless!
